  • Week 337 – August 20th – Surrey v Nottinghamshire – Day 1 – Part 2

    Oval
Nottinghamshire all out for 184, but a good recovery led by Liam Pattison-White

    Oval
End of the day with Surrey 13-1

    Surrey 13 for 1 trail Nottinghamshire 184 (Patterson-White 76*, Lawes 5-45)

Liam Patterson-White led a spirited Nottinghamshire fightback to 184 all out after Surrey had reduced the champions to 41 for 5 at the Kia Oval.

Patterson-White, who came in at No. 8, scored 76 not out as the top two teams in last season’s Rothesay County Championship battled hard again for supremacy.

Kyle Verreynne and Brett Hutton both played useful hands with 22 and 19 respectively, as did No. 11 Dillon Pennington with 9, but it was Patterson-White’s counter-attacking innings that kept Notts in this contest. At stumps, Surrey were 13 for 1 in reply.

Notts were 70 for 6 when Patterson-White joined Verreynne but the left-hander hit some lovely shots, including one punched on drive for four off Tom Lawes, who was the pick of Surrey’s attack with 5 for 45.

Patterson-White faced 112 balls, hitting 13 fours as 80 runs were scored for the last two Notts wickets, and then Olly Stone had Dom Sibley caught behind for a second-ball duck as fortunes continued to swing.

Dan Worrall took 2 for 41 and Matt Fisher 2 for 43 but Patterson-White’s effort is potentially already an invaluable one with only 25 points separating Division One leaders Notts and seventh-placed Surrey at the start of what is sure to be a thrilling six-match run-in.

Meanwhile Ryan Patel, who suffered a nasty finger injury attempting to take a catch in the 11th over of Notts’ innings, has been substituted out of Surrey’s team and replaced by Josh Blake.

Despite the rain, it was a great day watching the cricket with @mark, started in the pavilion and then moved around the ground catching some of the sun and being in the right places for missing the rain too.

  • Week 336 – August 15th – Terry RIP

Just after midnight, Claire got a call to say her dad breathing was shallow and before we could leave another call to say that he sadly passed his last breath.

We still went down to the hospital, so that we could say our final goodbyes.

It has not been an easy year, dealing with this since December 28th.

At least we have lots of good memories, pictures and stories, especially when he was in the Navy.

    Terry RIP.

  • Week 335 – August 5th – Surrey v Kent – Part 4

    Surrey
Dan Worrall, took an outstanding catch at long off to end the match

    Surrey
Final scores of the match and in the end an easy victory for Surrey

    Surrey 286 (Patel 73, Sibley 53, Milnes 3-32) beat Kent 191 (Denly 51, Lawes 4-40, Ealham 3-37) by 95 runs

Surrey overpowered Kent by 95 runs at the Kia Oval, totalling 286 before bowling out their visitors for 191 to take a big step closer to qualification for the Metro Bank One-Day Cup knockout stages.

A crowd of almost 7000 saw Ryan Patel’s superb 70-ball 73 launch Surrey’s innings in style, after they had been put in. Dom Sibley made 53 in an opening stand of 116 in 20 overs with Patel, who hit a six and 13 fours, while Rory Burns’ 33 from 18 balls also caught the eye.

Kent, in reply, were never in the hunt as Dan Worrall and Tom Lawes, both released from their Hundred franchises, bowled beautifully and Patel – with his medium-pacers – came on to have Daniel Bell-Drummond caught at mid-off for 27.

A defiant sixth-wicket stand of 86 between Jaydn Denly (51) and Ekansh Singh (38) kept Surrey waiting but the win, their fourth from six Group A matches, also makes it all but impossible for Kent to qualify for the quarter-finals now they have three defeats from six games.

After cleaning up the Kent tail, Lawes claimed 4 for 40 while Tommy Ealham also impressed with 3 for 37.

During Kent reply, we had booked an afternoon tea. Unfortunately, this was probably the worse afternoon tea we have had, hardly any food and were charged extra for the coffee’s which we weren’t advised and have never experienced at any other afternoon tea’s we have before.

It was good to see Dan Worrall bowling, unusually from the pavilion end and he also took two excellent catches in the outfield. Excellent crowd for this match.

  • Week 334 – August 1st – Goring by Sea

    Goring
Wind farm out in the channel. Didn’t see the bird in the picture until after taking it

Lovely day down at Goring by Sea, just relaxing on the beach and then having a late lunch and an ice cream.

It was busy, with a lot of people in sea, plus lots of yachts and wind surfing, especially in the afternoon as a breeze was around.
