Cricket coaching journey

  • Week 272 – May 20th – Prevent ECB course

After I completed the safeguarding course, shortly afterwards I tried the prevent course, which I had struggled with previously.

This time, I was able to pass the course, but on completion, it implied that I had never done the course and no certificate was available.

I contacted the ECB and after some communication, today they message me to say that everything was sorted and that I could download the certificate.

  • Week 270 – May 6th – Safe Guarding Level 2

Login required to see this posting.

  • Week 241- October 24th – ECB Safe Guarding

Though I haven’t done any coaching this year, I decided to still renew by ECB safe guarding DBS.

So that I’m cleared if I do next year.

  • Week 213 – Apr 12th – Safe guarding

This afternoon, I completed another ECB course for safe guarding around umpires and scorers, as these are very important people to make the game enjoyable and safe. Plus making it run smoothly.

  • Week 212 – Apr 2nd – Understanding concussion

This evening I attend a webinar run by the ECB concerning concussion. It was presented by Claire Bolton (a safety officer at the ECB).

It was very interesting and learnt a few things.

Your head doesn’t need to be hit by an object to cause concussion which I didn’t know, anything that causes rattling in your head/brain as this is moving it when it shouldn’t.

Red flags are – Loss of consciousness, vomiting, loss of memory, head bleeding or nose bleeding (when hit), double vision.

Other signs are wobbling, mood changes, blank stares, confusion, dealing with sound and light.

They should be removed from the game, even if they say they are OK and monitored.

It is then a minimum of 21 days before returning to the game, if symptoms return during the 21 days, you start again from that and cannot return for 21 days.

The 4 R’s – Recognise, Remove, Recover and Return

Claire came across very well and it was very useful to understand about concussion.

On the link its interesting to see Eoin Morgan reacted to being hit and shows how you need to check the person out.

  • Week 209 – Mar 15th – ECB safe guarding course

After getting an email from the ECB today, I looked at the ECB training and did the online ECB safe guarding course as it had been updated since I took it 3 years ago.

Looking back when I was a child and starting playing cricket, I did stuff that wouldn’t be allowed today.

How life as changed, not sure if for the better or the worse.

    I completed the course successfully.

  • Week 193 – Nov 25th – DBS update

This morning I received an email from the ECB, saying that my DBS status was updated and all good.

“This email is confirmation that England and Wales Cricket Board has successfully completed a status check of your DBS certificate.

You are cleared to continue carrying out regulated activities with England and Wales Cricket Board until 23/11/2024.”

    Always good to know.

  • Week 189 – Oct 25th – Safe guarding

I had to login into the ECB safe guarding portal, so that my ECB safe guarding can be checked and allow be to be cleared to continue to work with children.

Hopefully this will come back with no issues.

  • Week 152 – February 7th – ECB coaching

Today I received confirmation that my ECB coaching membership had been confirmed for another year.

  • Week 141 – November 25th- ECB DBS certificate

As I had NOT heard anything (which I find a bit strange), my ECB DBS certificate has been extended for another year.

Shows I’ve been a good boy again.
