It’s sad when you receive an email like this from the ECB due to the riots after the dreadful murder of 3 young girls and many injured.  

“Hi all,

We are very aware that there has been an increase in racism and violence across the Country. During this period, safety should be paramount.

We want volunteers to know that they are empowered to take appropriate steps to safeguard themselves and be aware what support is available to them. We recommend being aware of local news and making informed decisions around the safety of running different activities. However, please do reach to your relevant contacts at your Counties if you need additional support as they have also been advised to ensure safety of our volunteers is priority.

Most importantly if you don’t feel comfortable travelling or attending any centres please do not feel obliged, but do let your local club or centre know as soon as possible. If you choose to travel, here are some safety tips that may be useful when out and about volunteering or coaching this weekend:

1. Be aware: stay alert and be vigilant of your surroundings. Try to avoid using headphones while walking.

2. Be Visible: try and stay in well-lit areas. Keep your head up and walk with a steady pace.

3. Try not to travel alone: try and travel with a fellow volunteer or coach to and from your centres.

4. Share your location with friends or family: for additional safety and security of yourself and others. We want to act on discrimination that happens anywhere in cricket. If you are a victim or a witness to discrimination, the independent Cricket Regulator wants to hear from you.

All reports will be triaged appropriately, and where they meet a criminal threshold, they will be passed to the police.

Once again the Internet shows it bad side, with so much false information, but also encouraging people to cause trouble against innocent people and properties as well as the police too.

There is no need for this what so ever, everyone should be safe and enjoy their life, no matter what colour or religion they believe in.
