  • Week 131 – September 17th – Kent v Lancashire

    Kent 306 -6 of 50 overs (J Evison 97, O Robinson 43, J Denly 78, A Blake 38, D Stevens 33*, T Bailey 10-0-46-2, L Hurt 10-1-64-2) beat Lancashire 285 of 48.4 overs (K Jennings 72, S Croft 72, G Stewart 7-0-42-3, N Gilchrist 10-0-65-3, J Evison 6.4-0-34-2) by 21 runs

Finally after all these years at the 8th attempt.

Kent kept their cool with three superb match-winning catches as they beat Lancashire at Trent Bridge to win the One-Day Cup by 21 runs and claim their first List A trophy since 1978.

Tom Bailey struck with only the fourth ball of the match when left-hander Ben Compton carved to gully – and Croft comfortably held onto to a catch above his head. But Kent rallied well, as Ollie Robinson came in to help Evison share a stand of 78.

It was ended contentiously when Liam Hurt cut Robinson in two with a lifting ball that appeared to hit something as it made it through to wicketkeeper Lavelle, who snaked out an arm at full stretch to take a superb left-handed catch, but whether it was bat or pad was hard to tell.

Either way, it mattered little as skipper Joe Denly came in to put together a stand of 133 with Evison in 20 overs.

But Evison missed out on a ton when he was bowled by Danny Lamb, Hurt bowled Denly, Alex Blake holed out to a Rob Jones/Keaton Jennings relay catch at long on and Grant Stewart went in a run-out mix-up with Stevens.

As they say, catches win matches and it was the fielding that was the big difference between the two teams.

Two trophies in two seasons now. Well done Kent.

  • Week 130 – September 6th – KIA Oval ballot

Entered the ticket ballot for the cricket next year at the Kia Oval.

    See if I’m lucky here.

  • Week 129 – September 4th – Memories

This is where it all started, though it wouldn’t be possible now, looking at this picture.

This is where from the Easter bank holiday until the school summer holidays finished, on average about 8 of us came here and played cricket all day.

We even brought a lawn mower up to cut a pitch every so often.

Looking at it now, it appears no one plays on this land, how the world has changed.

This was where a lot of my summer day was spent playing cricket.
  • Week 128 – August 25th – Will I get tickets?

Today I registered for tickets for the Ashes series at Lords next year.

Hopefully I might be lucky and get a chance to get tickets for the famous match next year.

  • Week 126 – August 12th – Good to help

Today I received a voucher for the ICC survey I did earlier in the year.

One of the things I mentioned does appear it may be used by ICC.

    Let’s see what happens.

  • Week 126 – August 12th – Darren Stevens

I received and email today, that after looking elsewhere, Kent have decided to release the legend that is Darren Stevens after being at the club for 17 years.

He has been an incredible player for Kent, I didn’t actually realise until reading the email that he didn’t bowl until after he joined Kent.

If you have been following the blog, you would have seen pictures from a 2nd team match which he was playing in, hopefully I can see again before the end of the season.

Thank you for your performances for the team.

  • Week 124 – July 28th – ICC survey

Completed another ICC survey today, see if anything comes of this one.

    Kent 2nd 385-5 of 50 overs (AS Basra 49, SW Mead 100, AJ Blake 83, DI Stevens 38, Z Ul-Hassan 70*, Az Khan 10-0-70-3) beat Hong Kong 141 of 44.2 overs (KD Shah 40, E Khan 34, MW Edwards 9.2-1-30-3, Z Ul-Hassan 5-0-25-2, JEG Logan 10-4-16-3) by 244 runs.

So after a good start in the field by Hong Kong, Kent 2nd XI batsman hit them around the ground to amass 385-5 in their 50 overs. Led by wicketkeeper SW Mead 100 and captain AJ Blake 83, who put on 155 for the 3rd wicket of just 17 overs. Z Ul-Hassan then hit 70* with 4×4 and 5×6. Az Khan picked up 3-70

In reply Hong Kong were never in the chase, as the speed of MW Edwards (3-20), never made it easy for the batsman and then the spin of JEG Logan bowled an impressive spell to claim 3-16.

It was good to see the legend Darren Stevens back playing for Kent.

Even though the result was obvious from early on, it was good to have the freedom to wander around the ground and also see Scott playing.
