Today I had a surprised gift through the post from Mark Scholfield.

I think he knows me well, been friends over 30 years after meeting at Nat West Goodman Fields computer centre in Aldgate.

Does cricket mean that much to me?

Cricinfo didn’t want my checking service. Communication between us.

    Hello Rajesh

Thank you for your last feedback.

I hope you had a good Christmas and New Year? I wish you all the best for 2021

I can see the mistakes in the first Test England and West Indies 2020, have been corrected apart from the West Indies second innings partnership mistakes.

Unfortunately, there were errors / mistakes in all three 2020 Boxing Day Test matches, again I offer my services to you.

Also I noticed during December, there was a scorecard update on the website, which means if players have the same name, there initials are not showing up in the bowling or catching part of the scorecard which they did before, so doesn’t make the scorecard helpful, like the Jayawardene’s and more recently the Curran’s

    Look forward to your responds.

    Regards

    Michael

    Hello Michael,

The couple of errors you’ve mentioned will be corrected. Re the checking service, I’ll let you know if we need the services. Thanks for the offer though.

    Regards Rajesh

    Christmas greeting I received.

    Dear Michael,

As we come to the end of 2020, I want to say a huge thank you for everything you’ve done to support cricket during this exceptionally challenging year.

After the highs of 2019, it has certainly not been the year we hoped and planned for, but I am immensely proud of how the whole game has come together to navigate the challenges posed by COVID-19.

When the pandemic first struck, our collective approach was to reach out to our local communities and ask how we can help. Professional and recreational clubs, volunteers, players, and key workers across the cricket community went above and beyond to support the national effort in a time of crisis.

Thanks to the efforts and teamwork of many of you, we were also able to get back on the pitch across all levels of the game. We played in locals parks, in mosques, in back gardens and, of course, in front of empty stadiums. We played anywhere we could, watched our men’s and women’s teams on Sky and BBC, and put smiles on millions of faces across the country. This summer, above all others, we needed it.

There are many challenges ahead, but it has been fantastic to see the enthusiasm to get fans back into stadia, to give more people the opportunity to play the game, and to keep connecting communities and improving lives through cricket. We will be working hard over the winter to make sure all of this can happen safely in 2021.

Together, we can make next year one to celebrate. Before then, I hope you have a restful festive break with your loved ones – you have earned it. Thank you once again.

I followed up with Cricinfo as I had not heard anything, this was the response and my reply.

    Hello Michael,

The couple of errors you’ve mentioned will be corrected. Re the checking service, I’ll let you know if we need the services. Thanks for the offer though.

    My response

    Hello S Rajesh

Thank you for the email and update.

I’m now up to 165 matches with at least one error, some may trivial, but they are still mistakes, even in the finished 1st test New Zealand v West Indies I have found some. 🙁

Just to let you know a new customer service VP where I used to work, said I scared her, as she had never met anyone with such eye for detailed, but loved it that I could check her work before it went out to the team.

I’m just trying to offer a service to keep cricinfo the number 1 cricket website in the world 🙂

    Regards

    Michael

  • Week 39 – November 23rd 2020 – Week 4 of lockdown 2

Quick turnaround from Cricinfo, trying to see if I can get a contract with them.

    Hi Michael,

Can you send again the errors from this year? The word doc you had attached only had matches from 2003-04. I’ll see if our data team can sort the recent errors.

    Regards

    Rajesh

    My response

    Hello S Rajesh

Thank you for your response, this one we passed over earlier in the year, Jermaine Blackwood wagon wheel is still 1 run too many.

    https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/19497/statistics/1225247/england-vs-west-indies-1st-test-west-indies-in-england-2020

Your stats team have sorted out the West Indies first innings partnerships errors that we advised you on, but on the second innings.

First wicket, Kraigg Brathwaite is showing 1(4), when it should be 1(5).

Seventh wicket John Campbell is showing 7(14), when it should be 7(15).

S Rajesh as mentioned in an earlier email and after further discussion with various people, I’m happy to offer a checking service for a trial period and hourly rate to make sure that cricinfo stays as the number 1 cricket website in the world?

Look forward to hearing back from you.

    Regards

    Michael

  • Week 39 – November 23rd 2020 – Week 4 of lockdown 2

Ongoing communication with Cricinfo website and the number of errors, which I find quite incredible for the number 1 cricket website in the world.

    Hi Michael,

I’ve checked with our data team – many of the errors in the partnership and wagon wheel part of match stats from before 2006 are because of bugs with our earlier scoring software, which we have moved on from. None of the numbers on that page impact our overall partnership/wagon-wheel numbers because the errors are only in rendering on that page; at the back end all the numbers have been captured correctly.

And some of those are not errors at all – when a wicket falls off the last ball of an over, only the other not-out batsman is shown in the end-of-over summary; the new batsman appears later.

Our data guys will get to this at some point, but it’s not high-priority at the moment given some of the other projects they are currently on.

    Regards

    This was my response –

    Hello S Rajesh.

    Thank you for your response.

I sensed they were bugs as they we’re happening to often.

Regarding the end of over, not over 1 and the player is out of the last ball. It’s showing the wrong player on the end of the over graphic.

I have to say. I class cricinfo as the number one cricket site in the world and it’s quite staggering the number of errors that are on the site.

For the record we have found errors in this year’s matches, which we have reported and are still showing.

    Regards

    Michael.

  • Week 38 – November 16th 2020 – Week 3 of lockdown 2

Since lockdown started, I have been doing a cricket project, just to keep my mind alert, I was amazed over doing this, the number of errors / mistakes on the Cricinfo website. This was an email I sent to their lead statistics administrator, waiting on feedback.

    Hello S Rajesh

Lovely to hear from you. As Ken said in his last email. I’m taking this back over again due to his work commitments.

Well I did raise a few via the feedback, when I started my 2000 stats project and have no record of them apart from some URL links of the matches.

I do have a word document of later one’s, but I’ve been discussing with various people and considering the amount of working you’ve been doing with Ken, they said why don’t you ask if you could become a contractor working for cricinfo.

So I’m asking that S Rajesh?

I’ll attach a part of the word document, so you can see what I have found once I started recording them.

Look forward to hearing from you.

    Regards

    Michael
