  • Week 266 – April 9th – Thank you Trump NOT

On Wednesday, I always check my pension, and I was not looking forward to it with all news around the Trump tariffs and the market loosing big time.

Sure, enough and after looking back through my records, this was only 5th time I had lost over £10K in one week, but this was the most ever of £19k

How can one man in a different country impact mine and Claire future and where we can do nothing about it.

After speaking to both my financial adviser and financial market analysis, it just sit tight and hope he comes to his senses – which is a worrying thought.

  • Week 265 – April 4th – First financial win of the year

Today I picked up our first Lottery financial win of the year.

We have had several lucky dip wins, this was actually from the Euro Lottery, which I did for the first time, as the Jackpot was £202, which someone in Europe won.

  • Week 261 – March 7th – New car

Login required to see this posting.

  • Week 261 – March 6th – Cost of living survey

Over a month since I was first asked if I would do this survey, we were finally able to do it.

Bob came around and asked various questions. Most were the same from other times we had done the survey.

This is one of the ways the government see how households are coping in life regarding living and cost of stuff.

  • Week 261 – March 4th – New car or not new car

So today we drove to get the new car, even though we had not heard from car supplier.

We entered the show room and I saw our sales person, as I walked towards him, I could see that he was surprised to see us.

Yes he wasn’t expecting us and hadn’t read the email I sent.

So annoying, after trying to sort this out in advance.

Cut a long story, short, will go back on Friday.

  • Week 260 – February 28th – Not what you want to see

We had gone to get a coffee and got back into the car, Claire said what’s that pointing at the car front window.

I got out of the car and it looked even worse, something had caused a massive crack on the screen.

You don’t want it to happen at any time, but we are selling the car next Tuesday.

    Car
A massive crack on the window and were meant to be selling the car next Tuesday.

Once we got back home, I posted on the Auto glass website and was advised someone would call back by 1pm.

Of course no call, so I was then able to find a number to contact them and after speaking with a very helpful person, the earliest it could be done was Tuesday morning, the same day as picking up the new car.

I rang the car seller and of course the sales person wasn’t available, not surprising with the new car registration out tomorrow, so sent an email.

    Let see what they say.

  • Week 259 – February 23rd – What a dinner

    Roast
Great way to the end the day, Pork roast dinner, wonderfully cooked by Claire.

What a wonderful roast dinner this was tonight. Shame couldn’t put more on the plate.

  • Week 258 – February 14th – Life expectancy

This morning I received an email about life expectancy, here are the main points from it.

“Boys born in the UK in 2023 can expect to live on average to age 86.7 years and girls to age 90.0 years based on projections of cohort life expectancy, which take into account future improvements in mortality.

Cohort life expectancy at birth in the UK is projected to reach 89.3 years for boys and 92.2 years for girls born in 2047, an increase of 2.6 years and 2.2 years, respectively from 2023 levels.

People aged 65 years in the UK in 2023 can expect to live on average a further 19.8 years for males and 22.5 years for females based on cohort life expectancy, projected to rise to 21.8 years for males and 24.4 years for females by 2047.

A projected 17.3% of boys and 24.7% of girls born in 2047 in the UK will live to at least 100 years old, an increase from 11.5% of boys and 17.9% of girls born in 2023.

Our latest projections of cohort life expectancy at birth are 1.0 year lower for males and 0.5 years lower for females born in 2047 than the 2020-based interim projections.”

Good to see that it’s getting longer, but then what’s happening in the world, who knows if it’s good?

    What do you think?

  • Week 254 – January 24th – Traitors

Tonight was the final night of UK Traitors series 3, we had never watched it before, but had seen several clips on GoggleBox and thought we would give it a try.

We both really enjoyed it and Claudia Winkleman is a brilliant presenter of the show. It was a shame at the end that the people couldn’t trust each other, as there were 4 faithful’s left, but 2 were banished in the final task.

  • Week 251 – January 2nd – New gas cooker

This morning we had the new gas cooker delivered.

Everything went smoothly with removing the old cooker and connecting up the new one.

    The new cooker fitted in.

Just shows that some prices haven’t changed that much, the cooker was virtually the same price as the one that we purchased in 2013, the big difference was the cost for the old to be taken away and for it to be connected up.
