General life story
This morning, I believe for the 1st time for us, a National lottery lucky dip ticket win from the previous week won £30 pounds this week.
Nice way to start the Friday and the weekend.
This afternoon we had our security check of the house alarm and CCTV.
Thankfully everything was OK.
Though the engineer kindly cleaned the front CCTV, but when I checked in the night time and the night vision, the camera was worse it had ever been.
So there I was hanging out of the window cleaning it to have a clear picture.
This evening we went and voted for the mayor of London, plus the constituency London Assembly and the London-Wide Assembly members.
It been a major battle over the ULEZ and knife crime.
This was the first vote that we had been too, that you required photo-id.
I always wonder why the voting is done with a pencil.
When will the General Election vote be?
Today we switch over from a BT copper line to a BT fibre line.
The engineer turned up and asked me if a cable had been sent. The answer was no.
After discussing where the hub was best to go, he advised to call BT for the cable to be sent. When I spoke to BT, they were surprised the engineer didn’t have a cable, I mentioned that to the engineer, but he said they never carry them. I thought I wasn’t going to argue between them, so got the cable to be sent.
The engineer explained what I need to do with the cable and the hub.
After everything had been completed, the engineer came and checked everything was working OK, I said this is still on the old system, which he confirmed. Earlier in the week I had done speed tests and these were coming back much slower.
After checking on another machine, after rebooting, that seemed OK, so I rebooted this machine and yes it was all OK.
So I was happy for the engineer to leave.
I went to where the hub was and was surprised that the engineer hadn’t cleaned up the dust from the drilling, so I dealt with that and put the room back.
I then checked my phone and saw that I had two emails from BT, with the first saying we’ve completed and you now need to plug the cable in. I thought WHAT.
Sure enough, I checked the machines and they were no longer connected to the internet.
I was not happy.
I rang BT, and I must admit this guy was very helpful, but this had been handled all wrongly.
The engineer should have explained to me, without the cable, the internet wouldn’t work, because once he is completed, they switch off the copper line over to the fibre line and there is no way of going back. If I had known that, I would have said no and rescheduled.
Also for the engineer to come and stand next to me and check everything was working and knowing that this would be stop as soon as he had sent some communication back to office, was not impressed at all.
Whilst on with the BT, I checked a draw and found a cable, after reading out what was on the cable, he said, that may work.
So I connected up the hub to the new BT box and thankfully the machines worked again on the internet.
He had put in a complaint, but it was from them to the engineer provider.
Luckily I knew what I was doing and had a cable, at no point during all the communication before the visit was there a mention of a cable required.
This morning I had delivered on the day of release, the new album by the Pet Shop Boys.
It’s the first vinyl record I have brought in years.
I paid more, so that I got a double album and that it was in white vinyl.
Can’t remember the last time I used the record player, but the album was brilliant.
Well done the Pet Shop Boys!!

This morning we had our first delivery by Ocado shopping.
There was good communication from the company about the delivery and was done during the time frame.
The delivery person was very pleasant and helpful.
Overall a good service.

Today we received a letter with our new home insurance renewal and the cost of living hits home again. It’s just complete madness, especially as we have never claimed on it.
From searching around, it appears there has been a massive increase in the last year and ours as gone up by 38%, which is around the average increase.
It’s the biggest increase by a long way that we have had.
The government are saying things are getting better, but the average person is not seeing it, as everything is dearer, even with inflation coming down. There needs to be ordinary people helping with making decisions and not MP’s on £84K and some with 2nd jobs too.
When will this end?
This morning I received an email from Office of National Statistics which I thought was an excellent read regarding modern life journey.
Today we published our most recent version of the Milestones: journeying through modern life article. This revisits the key milestones in life that most of us experience, the average age people reach these milestones and how they’ve changed over time. These events are broken down by age and sex, and include:
moving out of the family home
starting full time work
moving in with a partner
having a first baby
first marriage
buying a home
peak earning
owning a home outright
retiring
So I’m sharing it here. – https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/populationandmigration/populationestimates/articles/milestonesjourneyingthroughmodernlife/2024-04-08
Hope you find it useful too?
For the first time, in quite a while we had a 3 ball lottery win and this was the first time under the new owners of the National Lottery.
Always good to pick up a win, or is it considering how much has been outlaid since the last win?
At least it will pay for a Costa or two lol.

Today is 4 years since I was made redundant, after 21 years of service.
I can’t believe 4 years have passed already and that in that time, we have had a pandemic, the Queen passed away, my mother-in-law passed away, we renewed our wedding vows, a war broke out in Europe, the cost of living is crazy.
That’s why you should try to live your life to the full, as you never know what is around the corner.
Thank you to those that have commented or left a like on my postings. It’s very much appreciated.
