  • Week 102 – February 27th – Bielsa sacked

Head coach Marcelo Bielsa has been sacked by Leeds United after a run of poor form that saw his side suffer several heavy defeats.

The 66-year-old Argentine, appointed in June 2018, leaves with the Whites two points above the relegation zone.

Under Bielsa, Leeds finished ninth last season on their return to the Premier League after a 16-year absence.

But Saturday’s 4-0 defeat by Tottenham meant they had lost their past four games by an aggregate score of 17-2.

Yes Leeds have been badly affected by injuries this season, but for some strange reason he didn’t want to change the style we played.

You can’t concede 17 goals in four games and not do something different.

It’s sad to see him go after what he has done for the club.

Hopefully we can do enough to stay up.

  • Week 102 – February 25th – Cost of living

It’s normal around this time of year to be advised that stuff will increase.

This year it has been crazy, especially with the fuel prices for gas and electricity.

Why can’t the government do something?

They were happy to change the rules on the pension increase, because the indexes were a lot higher than normal.

The government did come in to help, but only with a rebate that you will have to pay back over time.

  • Week 102 – February 24th – Snow

So after enjoying the lovely weather of the Maldives less than two weeks ago, I look out on to the patio and we have a flurry of snow.

Thankfully this amount did not cause any trouble.

  • Week 102 – February 23rd – Liverpool v Leeds United

    Liverpool 6 – Leeds United 0 – HT 3-0

    Salah (15 pen, 35 pen),

     Matip (30), Mané (80, 90),

     van Dijk (90+3)

    Assists

    Salah (30), Henderson (80),

    Robertson (90+3)

Rampant Liverpool closed the gap on leaders Manchester City to three points after cruising to a sixth Premier League win in a row at Leeds United’s expense at a raucous Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s side warmed up for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final with an utterly dominant display that included three goals in 20 first-half minutes.

Two of those came from penalties by Mohamed Salah, who also set up defender Joel Matip for his first goal since December 2020.

Sadio Mane added two late goals and Virgil van Dijk scored with an added-time header.

Leeds are as deeply in a relegation battle as Liverpool are in a title race after a humiliating defeat on Merseyside.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side started the day with a five-point cushion but this dispiriting result – coupled with Burnley’s win over Tottenham – means they are just three points above the bottom three having played more games than the trio immediately below them.

Bielsa’s side have conceded 56 goals this season – the highest number in the Premier League – including 31 in the past nine matches.

This was not a good day at all, on top of the other recent performances, we can’t score and letting goals in at will.

League position 15th after 25 games – After 25 games last season, Leeds were 10th.

  • Week 101  – February 14th – PCR results

Due to the Covid 19 rule changes, we didn’t need to have a Covid 19 test on arriving back from the holiday, but due to the issues with the holiday (See earlier posts), we had an outstanding PCR test we could take.

So we used it and both of us were negative. Now to get use to the cold and rain.

  • Week 100  – February 12th – Back home

So we have landed back in England. Thankfully on time, especially as there was only 70 minutes between the flights in Dubai. At the least the planners had made it only short walk between arrival gate and the departure gate.

Can’t believe the holiday is over.

What a wonderful time we had. Even more so after the disaster on Boxing Day.

Now back to the coldness of England.
