  • Week 124 – July 31st – England v Germany

    England 2 – Germany 1 AET – HT 0-0 – FT 1-1

    Toone (62), Kelly (110) – Magull (79)

    Assists –

    Walsh (62) – Wassmuth (79)

It finally came home! Great performance by the team and the fans too, made this a wonderful tournament.

England created history by winning their first major women’s tournament in a dramatic Euro 2022 final against old rivals and eight-time champions Germany at Wembley, in front of a record crowd for a women’s or men’s Euro Final.

Substitute Chloe Kelly poked home a loose ball from a corner to send the raucous record crowd of 87,192 into a frenzy with ten minutes of extra time remaining.

She waited for confirmation of the goal before taking off her shirt and waving it around her head, while being lifted by her team-mates in a moment of pure elation.

Ella Toone had earlier come off the bench to score the opener in normal time before Germany’s Lina Magull set up a nervous ending when she equalised in the 79th minute.

Victory in the final was capped by England forward Beth Mead picking up the Golden Boot as the tournament’s top scorer with six goals and five assists.

It’s sad to read on various forums, negative comments when your country actually wins a tournament.

Well done LADIES for bringing the trophy HOME!!

  • Week 124 – July 31st – Covid19 survey

We decided to stop being part of the covid19 survey, due to the way it was now being done.

Been enjoyable doing it, to help fight the virus, which will be around for ever.

Will take the 4th vaccine jab in the autumn.

    Stay safe everyone.

    Kent 2nd 385-5 of 50 overs (AS Basra 49, SW Mead 100, AJ Blake 83, DI Stevens 38, Z Ul-Hassan 70*, Az Khan 10-0-70-3) beat Hong Kong 141 of 44.2 overs (KD Shah 40, E Khan 34, MW Edwards 9.2-1-30-3, Z Ul-Hassan 5-0-25-2, JEG Logan 10-4-16-3) by 244 runs.

So after a good start in the field by Hong Kong, Kent 2nd XI batsman hit them around the ground to amass 385-5 in their 50 overs. Led by wicketkeeper SW Mead 100 and captain AJ Blake 83, who put on 155 for the 3rd wicket of just 17 overs. Z Ul-Hassan then hit 70* with 4×4 and 5×6. Az Khan picked up 3-70

In reply Hong Kong were never in the chase, as the speed of MW Edwards (3-20), never made it easy for the batsman and then the spin of JEG Logan bowled an impressive spell to claim 3-16.

It was good to see the legend Darren Stevens back playing for Kent.

Even though the result was obvious from early on, it was good to have the freedom to wander around the ground and also see Scott playing.
