  • Week 215 – Apr 26th – QPR v Leeds United

    Queens Park Rangers 4 – Leeds United 0 – HT 2-0

    L. Dykes, (73′)

    S. Field, (86)

    I. Chair (73′, 86′)

The season was not ending the way I wanted, the last 5 games have been terrible, and especially after the run we had from the start of the year, this game about summed up the last five games, a hammering of 4-0.

Queens Park Rangers secured their Championship survival in style with a stunning 4-0 win against Leeds – a result that sent Leicester up to the Premier League.

First-half goals from Ilias Chair and Lucas Andersen, followed by second-half headers from Lyndon Dykes and Sam Field, gave the Hoops a deserved win in their final home game of the season.

Hoops goalkeeper Asmir Begovic made big saves to deny Joel Piroe and Crysencio Summerville in the first half, but the home side never looked back after Chair’s early opener.

The defeat for second-placed Leeds hugely dents their hopes of automatic promotion and means Leicester return to the top flight at the first time of asking.

The Whites now look increasingly likely to have to settle for a play-off place with Ipswich one point behind with two games in hand.

But it was a night of elation for Marti Cifuentes’ Hoops who are now seven points clear of the drop zone and move up to 16th.

We have thrown away the chance of being promoted straight back up as I can’t see Ipswich failing to overtake us to claim 2nd place and meaning that were be in the play-off’s which we have a dreadful record in.

  • Week 215 – Apr 26th – Pet Shop Boys

This morning I had delivered on the day of release, the new album by the Pet Shop Boys.

It’s the first vinyl record I have brought in years.

I paid more, so that I got a double album and that it was in white vinyl.

Can’t remember the last time I used the record player, but the album was brilliant.

Well done the Pet Shop Boys!!

  • Week 214 – Apr 15th – Derek Underwood

Today was a sad day, as one of the legends for Kent and England cricket, Derek Underwood sadly passed away at the age of 78.

He was one club man, taking 4-40 on his debut at the age of 17 in 1963, and became the youngest player to take 100 wickets in their first season of county cricket.

He went on to play over 900 matches for Kent between 1963 and 1987, claiming 2,523 wickets at a staggering average of 19.04.

His nickname of Deadly was definitely true, especially on rain affected wickets, he became virtually unplayable, as Australia found out at the Oval test 1968, after fans had help to dry the outfield, he led England to victory to tie the series with only 6 minutes left of playing time.

He played 86 Tests for England and is still England leading spinner with 297 wickets at an average of 25.83 and 6th overall in the all-time England bowling list.

He received an MBE in 1981 for his services to cricket.

Then in 2011, a stand at Kent home ground Canterbury was named after Underwood & Knott, in recognition of their partnership for Kent and England – (CT or ST Knott b Underwood).

I remember watching him on TV and his line and length at the speed he bowled was incredible to watch, especially with Knott behind the stumps.

RIP Deadly, thank you for the memories and what partly got me into cricket.

  • Week 213 – Apr 14th – New plants

With the weather finally being decent, we went and got some new plants for the garden.

As you can see the lawn is pretty high due to the amount of rain we have had. When will it stop?
