I was wandering around London, after taking Claire to St Thomas hospital, see other blog post. Thankfully the weather was decent to allow this.

  • Week 226 – July 14th – England v Spain

    England 1  Spain 2 – HT 0-0

    C. Palmer (73′)  Nico Williams (47′), Mikel Oyarzabal (86′)

    Assists –

    J. Bellingham (73′)  Lamine Yamal (47′), Marc Cucurella (86′)

    Venue: Olympiastadion Berlin Attendance: 65,600

So for the 1st time in their history, England have made a final on foreign soil. Can they win?

Well there against the best team in tournament, so it would be some achievement and surprise if they did.

Let’s sit down in front of the TV and see what happens.

England’s quest to end 58 years of pain and disappointment ended in failure as they were beaten by Spain in the Euro 2024 final at Berlin’s Olympiastadion.

Gareth Southgate’s side were sunk by Mikel Oyarzabal’s late winner to leave England heartbroken again in a second successive European Championship final and unable to end the long wait for success for the men’s team.

Spain’s young star wingers combined to give them the lead two minutes after the break as Lamine Yamal’s pass opened up space for Nico Williams to beat England keeper Jordan Pickford with a powerful low finish.

England captain Harry Kane was out of sorts once more and was substituted on the hour and it was Cole Palmer – on for Kobbie Mainoo – who raised hopes of another dramatic comeback with a composed left-foot strike after 73 minutes.

It was Spain, however, who snatched the win four minutes from time as Oyarzabal slid home Marc Cucurella’s cross to leave England the nearly men once more.

Well the best team won, but we should be proud that we have made the final again. Not played the best football, but England stuck together and battled to get there.

I doubt Gareth Southgate will stay, even though he has one of the best England’s records ever, just because of the way he has been treated earlier in the tournament, would you want that in your job?

Will England win a World Cup or Euro Final in my life time (well I was alive when we won in 1966), I think only if they win the World Cup or Euro’s in the next 4 years and the players play as they do for their clubs.

  • Week 226 – July 13th – Beverley Hills Cop. AxelF

Can’t believe its 40 years since the 1st Beverley Hills Cop and Eddie Murphy hardly looked any different, though the other two main returning characters, you couldn’t say that.

Instead of 1st showing in the cinema, this was on Netflix.

I didn’t realise until looking into, Eddie, he didn’t like the 3rd film.

It was ok film, made for an enjoyable evening, before the big match tomorrow night.

  • Week 226 – July 13th – Greenwich

We took a trip to Greenwich Park and Greenwich, as the weather was decent and had a walk by the river Thames.
