Friendly XI v Petts Wood (Home)
The good weather was back and I would be playing under the first team skipper James Nash, never spoken with him or some of the other players before, as only one team was due to play this weekend.
This was a friendly against Petts Wood 1st as the league opponents Leybourne 1st had pulled out of playing.
On this warm day, Petts Wood lost the toss, so James decided to bat. It was a 36 over match.
We were given a good start by Gareth Jones and Gary Wale, as they put on 86 for the first wicket, with Garth making 50 of them with fine strokes around the pitch. He was finally caught for 69. Lee Saunders batted through the rest of innings from number 4, making 31*
I batted at number 6, making just 3 before being caught in the covers.
New Ash Green friendly XI 168-8 from 36 overs – Gareth Jones 69, Gary Wale 27, Lee Saunders 31*, Dinuka Bandara Gunasekara 7-3-16-4, Gaurav Mahajan 8-1-37-3
In reply Petts Wood got off to a steady start and were chasing well, they were reeled in by a fiery spell by Mick Summer and steady spell from Ian Mellor, but some interesting bowling changes and bowling spells allowed Petts Wood to claim victory in the last over! Enjoyable match.
Petts Wood 1st 172-7 from 35.2 overs – Matthew Thomas 38*, Ganesh Ramdath 28, Aashutosh Mishra 27, Mick Sumner 6-2-17-2, Ian Mellor 8-1-27-2 won by 3 wickets.
