  • Week 213 – Apr 10th – Cost of living bites again

Today we received a letter with our new home insurance renewal and the cost of living hits home again. It’s just complete madness, especially as we have never claimed on it.

From searching around, it appears there has been a massive increase in the last year and ours as gone up by 38%, which is around the average increase.

It’s the biggest increase by a long way that we have had.

The government are saying things are getting better, but the average person is not seeing it, as everything is dearer, even with inflation coming down. There needs to be ordinary people helping with making decisions and not MP’s on £84K and some with 2nd jobs too.

    When will this end?

  • Week 213 – Apr 8th – NHS Loneliness survey

This evening I received an email from NHS, as signed up for Be Part of Research and was asked to do a survey about loneliness.

It was an easy survey to do and hopefully it will provide help for people.

  • Week 213 – Apr 8th – Milestones: journeying through modern life

This morning I received an email from Office of National Statistics which I thought was an excellent read regarding modern life journey.

Today we published our most recent version of the Milestones: journeying through modern life article. This revisits the key milestones in life that most of us experience, the average age people reach these milestones and how they’ve changed over time. These events are broken down by age and sex, and include:

moving out of the family home

    starting full time work

    moving in with a partner

    having a first baby

    first marriage

    buying a home

    peak earning

    owning a home outright

    retiring

    So I’m sharing it here. – https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/populationandmigration/populationestimates/articles/milestonesjourneyingthroughmodernlife/2024-04-08

  • Week 212 – Apr 3rd – Claire mammogram

This afternoon, I took Claire for her mammogram.

It’s good that her company offer this, even if it’s goes on to her tax.

At least she can be checked to make sure everything is OK.

  • Week 212 – Apr 2nd – Understanding concussion

This evening I attend a webinar run by the ECB concerning concussion. It was presented by Claire Bolton (a safety officer at the ECB).

It was very interesting and learnt a few things.

Your head doesn’t need to be hit by an object to cause concussion which I didn’t know, anything that causes rattling in your head/brain as this is moving it when it shouldn’t.

Red flags are – Loss of consciousness, vomiting, loss of memory, head bleeding or nose bleeding (when hit), double vision.

Other signs are wobbling, mood changes, blank stares, confusion, dealing with sound and light.

They should be removed from the game, even if they say they are OK and monitored.

It is then a minimum of 21 days before returning to the game, if symptoms return during the 21 days, you start again from that and cannot return for 21 days.

The 4 R’s – Recognise, Remove, Recover and Return

Claire came across very well and it was very useful to understand about concussion.

    Useful link – https://concussionlearning.ecb.co.uk/

On the link its interesting to see Eoin Morgan reacted to being hit and shows how you need to check the person out.
